SORSOGON Gov. Francis Joseph "Chiz" Escudero urged the government to reconsider its order for employees of business process outsourcing (BPO) centers to return to their offices by April 1 because of the skyrocketing cost of fuel.
"At first, Covid-19 was our enemy — and the threat of the virus is still there — but now the weekly increase in oil prices and the looming rise in commodity prices seem to be a bigger threat," Escudero said.
He said if people can only work and be productive at home then there is no need to force them to travel.
As of March 16, the pump prices of gas and diesel have reached P94/liter and P84/liter, respectively.
As a result, public utility vehicles have asked for a fare hike to cut their losses.
